Karas Shawarma was started in September 2018 by Albert Ghobrial and Sherin Estefanos.
Shawarma is generally prepared across the globe on electrical oven. But Karas Shawarma specializes in preparation of Shawarma over charcoal pit. This preparation requires more time and effort, hence more cost. However, the experience of Albert and Sherin in this field make these Shawarma’s enhance the taste that you would normally not get anywhere in North America.
Located strategically in Eglinton Ave West and Hwy 403 in Mississauga, which is predominantly inhibited by Middle-Eastern population, Karas Shawarma has a great market for itself. Besides, its competitive pricing adds to its advantage over its competitors.
Karas Shawarma specializes in a variety of Mediterranean Cuisine. Apart from the delicacies it currently offers, it very soon plans to start buffet Lunch and Dinner which is expected to attract the business community to dine over their business meetings.
Charcoal Shawarma has become such a specialty in the neighborhood that Karas Shawarma crossed a revenue of $50,000 in its first month of operation and has been galloping at that speed ever since, subject to seasonality factor.

Albert comes with 25+ years of experience as a Chef in Egypt and Canada. He’s worked as Executive Chef in big hospitality houses in Egypt, South Africa and luxury boat cruises on River Nile. When he landed in Canada a decade ago, he started with catering business specializing in Event Catering for 500 – 1,000 guests across GTA. With his growing popularity through Maraya TV Channel on Rogers and Bell Network, he was encouraged by his customers to start his own Restaurant. That’s when the idea of Charcoal Shawarma, which he specialized back home in Egypt, came to his mind and he started Karas Shawarma.
Albert, along with his wife Sherin, have been a celebrity chef in Canada hosting a number of Cooking shows on Rogers, Bell and Private TV Channels. His shows are still running on a couple of TV Channels.
Albert not only specializes in Mediterranean cuisine, he also caters to Italian, Polish and South Asian customers.
Sherin comes with 9+ years of experience in Catering in Canada. She’s been a veteran in this field as she used to do catering for almost a decade in Egypt. Her experience in catering comes in as an asset to Karas Shawarma which not only serves dine-in and take away, but also party catering to the local Middle-Eastern and South Asian communities. Since Sherin has been in this business for the past 9 years in Canada, she has been able to bring in her customer base that has given a big boost to Karas Shawarma to enhance its sales.
Karas Shawarma’s 25% of the revenue comes from the catering business that Sherin leads.
